CURRENT
'...a Large Public Garden'
'...a Large Public Garden’ is a response to Albury City Council’s attempts to devastate Noreuil Park and other neighbouring parklands, under the guise of development. This is currently taking shape through the introduction of concrete type materials, and the removal of trees.
Noreuil Park is situated on the Murray River and is beloved by the local community of Albury / Wodonga. It is a green space for public use, set on the bank of Australia’s longest river. ‘...a Large Public Garden,’ depicts Noreuil Park in its current - or soon to be former - state. This body of work takes its name from Oxford Languages, which defines a ‘park’ as ‘a large public garden’ (2024).
Alice's current body of work is an expression of her ill feelings toward Albury City Council and its disastrous plans for Noreuil Park, as well as Monument Hill Parklands, the Albury Botanic Gardens, Hovell Tree Park, Australia Park, and Oddies Creek Park.
This series will consist of a large quantity of small-scale compositions, each with a thick layer of synthetic resin applied after the oil paint has dried. A representation of the ongoing depletion of natural environments, caused by human intervention.
